30-Mar-2009, SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (AP) — Miss Universe and Miss USA have taken a firsthand look at the U.S. prison for terrorism suspects at Guantanamo Bay. The beauty pageant winners took part in a VIP tour to entertain American military personnel at the prison in Cuba.

Miss Universe Dayana Mendoza is blogging on the pageant Web site about her visit with Miss USA Crystle Stewart. The Venezuelan says they toured recreation and classroom areas of the prison. She said it was interesting but did not go into detail. The women later saw the high-security perimeter fence and went to the beach. Detention center spokesman Navy Lt. Cmdr. Brook DeWalt said Monday he doesn't know if any prisoners were "out and about" when the two women were inside the prison camp.

The new Miss World Norway 2009 is Sara Skjoldnes, 17, and the new Miss Universe Norway is Eli Landa, 24. They won their titles last night in Olso during a glittering ceremony hosted by former Miss Norway Katrine Sørland, who made top 5 at Miss World 2002 and top 15 at Miss Universe 2004.

Jéssica Umaña, 21, is the new Miss Costa Rica 2009. She won the title on Friday night in a glittering ceremony from San Jose's national auditorium. As the Ticos say, "Pura Vida!"

MISS AUSTRIA 2009

Anna Hammel, 21, a Leo with brown eyes and brown hair, is the new Miss Austria 2009. She won the title last night in a glittering ceremony in Kleinhaugsdorf. First runner-up was Konstanze Heis, 18, and second runner-up was Dejana Varadin, 22.

And what goergous eyes they are. One of Beauty School's favorite Miss Universes, Georgina Rizk of Lebanon. She took the stage in the evening gown competition in 1971 wearing hot pants and well the rest of the night was hers. And we're glad for it.

CONSOLATION PRIZE

With her classes cancelled, Prof. Chandni stayed home - and in bed - consoling herself with the Shoot 2009 Miss India Calendar, presented by Omaxe.

FUNKEN STATE OF CONFUSION

The reason for Prof. Chandni's funken state? It is because she has realized that Freida Pinto will not be the new Miss India 2009. Seems Prof. Chandni was given false information from one of her least favorite Miss Universe titleholders from the Isla del Encanto. Freida may be starring in the new Woody Allen movie, but she was never even considered for the part of Miss India 2009 as it turns out.

Student alert - Prof. Chandni's classes have been cancelled for tomorrow. Lorraine, Beauty School's Beloved Librarian, would send this student alert via text message, but she can't figure out how to do it on her rotary phone - a Princess phone, of course, in pink.

PASSOVER

We almost passed her over! Prof. Chandni is in such a funk these days that she omitted to inform us at the all-staff meeting about the new Miss Israel 2009, Adi Rodnitzky. Adi won the title last week in a glittering ceremony held in the seaside resort of Haifa.

We wish Mpule Kwelagobe, Miss Universe 1999, was starring in the new HBO series The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency, based on the novel of the same name. But, she is still a No. 1 Lady! (and one of Dean Harris' all-time favorite Miss Universe winners). We are so glad that the HBO series will showcase Mpule's beautiful country of Botswana.
